George Creel, president of the Authors League Fund, revealed recently that the policy of lending money to authors out of work forced expenditure of $17,000 during the year ending March 31st, while the income from the fund's endowment came to only $4,642.21 for the same period. To reduce the deficit, the Southwestern A Cappella Choir gave a benefit concert in New York City recently.

Ellis Parker Butler, treasurer of the Fund, said that no matter how famous a writer, artist or musician might be, he frequently was barred from usual methods of raising money in times of stress because he did not draw a salary which would enable him to borrow from banks, and because he was of a group "unlikely to own property."
