Be prepared to be blown away. Behold, “The Night Wind!”
The first four installments of
the Night Wind saga were written by the father of serial detective Nick Carter,
Frederic Merrill Van Rensselaer Dey, and published by the man who introduced
the “pulp” magazine to the world, Frank A. Munsey. The Night Wind was
a super-endowed character whose life-span in American popular culture ran
from 1913 to the early 1920s.
Bingham Harvard, alias the Night Wind, used his prodigious strength (roughly
5 times that of the average man) to rescue himself, friends and family from
various plots of “frame-ups,” extortion and outright physical violence.
His exploits were serialized in Munsey’s fiction magazines The Cavalier and
All-Story Weekly just a few months after the appearance of Tarzan in October
1912 and wrapping up just before the first appearance of Zorro on August 1919
by the same publisher.
Upon the close of a pulp magazine serial, the installments were
bound and reissued in hardcover format. There were a total of four hardcover
novels starring the Night Wind: Alias “The Night Wind,” The Return of the
Night Wind, The Night Wind’s Promise, and The Lady of the Night Wind.
In 1923 the first novel was adapted for the silent screen and released with
much popular appeal as Alias “The Night Wind.”
After almost 100 years out of print, Alias “The Night Wind” was re-released by Wildside Press
in March 2007. The Wildside Press edition of the sequel: The Return of the Night Wind was released in September
2007, and the third installment The Night Wind’s Promise hit bookstores in September
2008. The fourth novel: The Lady of the Night Wind was released in April 2009.
BEHOLD “THE NIGHT WIND” is a fifth, original installment of the Night Wind
saga set immediately after the events in the fourth installment.
BEHOLD “THE NIGHT WIND” was written under contract with Wildside Press,
with cover and interior illustrations by Mark Maddox and a foreword
by Win Scott Eckert.
The copy-edited manuscript was delivered to Borgo Press, an imprint of
Wildside Press, the first week of June 2012.
Anticipated release is immediately before or amidst the 2012 Holidays.
Formats, so far, are trade paperback and e-book, prices to be announced
later.

PulpFest is very
pleased to announce that illustrators Jim & Ruth Keegan,
best known for their comic strip series "The Adventures of Two-Gun Bob,"
published by Dark Horse Comics, will be appearing at the "Summer’s Great
Pulp Con" in August.
Jim & Ruth, along with their friend Mark Schultz, will be helping PulpFest
2012 to celebrate
the 80th anniversary of Robert E. Howard’s Conan of Cimmeria.
In addition to their celebrated comic strip version of Howard's life, the
Keegans have illustrated
Howard's fiction for Wandering Star, Del Rey Books, and The Robert E. Howard
Foundation.
Jim, Ruth, and Mark will be appearing in PulpFest’s dealers’ room where
they will have some of their Howard-related work on display. On Saturday evening,
August 11th, the three artists will discuss the artistic challenges of illustrating
Howard’s work and will present an historical overview of seven decades of
Conan art.

Pulp Forums - Now online!
The majority of pulp discussion these days is happening on various
Yahoo newsgroups, but Jason Aiken believes that a centralized forum would
be beneficial as well. This is especially true for bringing new fans into
the hobby, as people in their teens, twenties and early thirties grew up on
message boards / forums and don't have much experience with Yahoo or
newsgroups. To that end, Jason has started up a message board
for pulp discussion called PULP FORUMS. You can visit and register at the

"In the late summer of 188-, a train leaves Cairo heading across
the desert... carrying an odd assortment of Egyptians, Europeans and English
men and women. A cannon fires at the train from the dunes and the train's
fuel tender is knocked apart. Lacking fuel, the train stops dead near a small
Egyptian ruin from another age. Foraging for fuel the passengers are driven
further into the desert by a brief sand storm where they stumble upon the
remains of an ancient Egyptian tombyard."
Thus begins a ghost story by Ray Bradbury. Inspired by a telephone call
from the noted animator Chuck Jones, Ray Bradbury dashed to his typewriter
composing a poem entitled, "The Nefertiti-Tut Express." However, the bizarre
subject matter continued to haunt the author and he expanded it to over 2,000
words of a completed screenplay outline.

Lost in his files for
fourteen years, Bradbury rediscovered the screenplay in 1990. Unable to revive
it, he sent the manuscript to his friend, writer Harlan Ellison, to see if
he could add dialog and directing instruction. But Ellison's own demanding
publication schedule forbade time for revisionary work, and the manuscript
lay dormant and was soon forgotten.
Now, more than thirty-five years after its conception, Ray Bradbury's original
screenplay outline, "the Nefertiti-Tut Express," has at last been fleshed-out
and reanimated through the artistic vision of Gary Gianni, with more than
twenty illustrations.
Trade edition, less than 3000 copies printed.
The book is printed upon nice acid free papers withheavy paper covers and
is saddle-stiched enabling the book to lay flat to better view the twenty
illustrations by Gary Gianni. The book sells for $29.95 plus shipping.
Ray Bradbury received his copy two weeks before he died and this
was his comment.
