  OUTLAW
 THE GRAND ROBIN HOOD FINALE!
 Now available!

Airship 27 Productions is extremely proud
to announce the release of I.A. Watson’s third Robin Hood adventure novel,
  “Robin Hood – Freedom’s Outlaw.”

As depicted in the first two books of this amazing trilogy, King of
Sherwood and Arrow of Justice, the upstart outlaw of Sherwood Forest has
become a thorn in Prince John’s side. All the efforts by his sadistic stooge,
the Sheriff of Nottingham, to capture the elusive figure known as Robin
Hood have failed.

Now, in this climatic final chapter to I.A. Watson’s exciting trilogy,
Freedom’s Outlaw has Robin’s enemy devising a devious scheme to draw him
out into the opening by laying siege to the castle of his ally, Sir Richard
at the Lee.   But the trickster of the greenwoods may just be two
steps ahead of them.   Meanwhile the Lady Marion uses her royal connections
to bring all parties together before the High Nobles Court in London Town
where the brash rogue’s fate will be decided.

Surrounding all these events is the whispered talk of the appearance
of a White Hart in Sherwood Forest, a powerful symbol to the people for
whoever captures her will be acknowledged the true King of the Forest.

“I’ve always loved Robin Hood stories,” explains Airship 27 Productions
Managing Editor Ron Fortier. “He’s such a classic hero figure and it is
fun to watch each new generation discover him for the very first time; be
it in books, on TV or in the movies.  With this particular trilogy,
Ian Watson has recaptured the thrills and excitement of this well known saga
and made it fresh and new again.  No easy task.”

Now I.A. Watson brings his stunning, clever and historically based
adventure to a rousing, crowd cheering conclusion that will leave all Robin
Hood fans applauding.  The book features a stunning cover by Pulp
Factory Award winner Mike Manley with interior illustrations and book design
by fellow PF Award winner, Rob Davis and includes a very special post-essay
on the character’s role in British history by the author.  At last the
finale is here and it is one you will never forget!

 The book is now available
at Create Space
and should be at Amazon & Kindle
within the next few days.

 Dr. Thaddeus
  C. Harker: The Complete Talesby Edwin Truett Long, introduction by Tom Johnson
This title will be available early
 next week!

Written by Edwin Truett Long, Doc Harker was one of the last of the
Munsey heroes who were introduced to battle the oncoming wave of the comic
book industry. Dressed in a Prince Albert coat and looking like a Kentucky
gentleman, Harker and his crew travel the country selling their cure-all
Chickasha Remedies... and encounter crime at every stop. This edition
collects the entire series: "Crime Nest," "Woe to the Vanquished" and
"South of the Border," all from 1940 and complete, remastered, with all
the original illustrations. And it's rounded out by an introduction by pulp
historian Tom Johnson which reveals many facts about this previously-unidentified
pulp author, along with an exhaustive Edwin Truett Long bibliography.

Kofoed. The quest for a jewel encrusted statue leads to hair-raising adventures

Our second offering is The Man from Thebes
by William Wallace Cook, a comedic tale of what happens when a traveling medicine

meal-ticket. And what of a thousands year old mummy... will he adapt to this
modern age?

            But wait
- that’s not all! In addition to the novel length adventures of Nit-Ra is a
bonus tale, “At the End of the Wires” by Athelstane Hicks. A down-on-his-luck
name is hired to travel (secretly) to a New England town, take up residence
in an abandoned house and await further instructions. But the house
isn’t deserted, the car he was driving disappears from the barn he parked
it in and invisible hands tend his wounds and prepare him meals. What’s
going on . “At the End of the Wires”is an amiable mystery you’re sure

      | Blogging Sax Rohmer’s President Fu Manchu,
Part Four - Now online!Sax Rohmer’s The Invisible President was originally
serialized in Collier’s from February 29 to May 16, 1936. It was published
in book form later that year by Cassell in the UK and Doubleday in the US
under the title President Fu Manchu. The novel is the first in the series
to fictionalize real events with characters based on familiar figures in
the US in the 1930s such as Huey Long and Father Charles Coughlin. More
than one critic has noted the story may have influenced the classic Cold
War conspiracy thriller The Manchurian Candidate.

The long-awaited Blood ‘n’ Thunder Guide to Pulp Fiction, many months
in preparation, is now available from Murania Press.

A greatly revised and expanded version of 2007’s Blood ‘n’ Thunder
Guide to Collecting Pulps, this massive new book has been positioned as
more of a reference work than a mere manual for hobbyists. It’s a complete
history of the pulp magazine (told in more detail than ever attempted by
a single author) wrapped up in one-volume. Its 2007 predecessor had 226
pages and close to 400 pulp-cover reproductions. The new Guide to Pulp Fiction
has 414 pages and 700 cover repros, along with a smattering of original cover
paintings.

Chapters from the old Guide have been extensively reworked. New chapters
have been added on Spicy pulps, sports pulps, love pulps, and war-and-aviation
pulps. Also, two new appendices have been created for pulp-fiction readers
who don’t collect the vintage magazines. One appendix gives basic information
on the best small-press reprint publishers, while the other lists the most
important anthologies of pulp stories in various genres.

The Blood ‘n’ Thunder Guide to Pulp Fiction is priced at $29.95, which
includes shipping to domestic U.S. buyers. However, Murania Press is also
making the book available at a 20 percent discount to anybody who purchases
it along with a one-year subscription to Blood ‘n’ Thunder. This special

 The
Best of Blood ‘n’ Thunder: Volume Two
The Best of Blood ‘n’ Thunder: Volume Two, a trade paperback
priced at $24.95, reprints material from long out-of-print
   issues of BnT.

For more than a decade, Blood ‘n’ Thunder has explored American
popular culture of the late 19th and early 20th centuries
as manifested in its mass-market fiction—dime novels, nickel
weeklies, pulp magazines—and such complementary storytelling
forms as stage melodramas, motion pictures, and Old Time Radio
thrillers. The first 21 issues of this limited-circulation journal
are long out of print, and collectors have been known to pay
as much as ten times the original cover price for back numbers
that infrequently turn up on eBay.

A follow-up to 2011’s The Best of Blood ‘n’ Thunder, this deluxe
volume reprints the finest reviews and articles that appeared
in issues 11 through 21—more than 100,000 words of history,
biography, criticism, and commentary. In these pages you’ll
read about such popular characters as The Shadow, Doc Savage,
and Sam Spade. You’ll read about such legendary pulp magazines as
Adventure, Black Mask, and Short Stories. And you’ll read about
such famous authors as Talbot Mundy, Dashiell Hammett, and L.
Ron Hubbard. Like its predecessor, The Best of Blood ‘n’ Thunder:
Volume Two is a one-volume encyclopedia for aficionados of vintage
 adventure, mystery, and melodrama.

 Wilderness
  Trail, by H. Bedford-Jones
Murania’s second March release is the fourth volume in our Classic
Pulp Reprints series: Wilderness Trail, by H. Bedford-Jones.
Also published in trade-paperback format, it contains an
introduction by Ed Hulse and carries a retail price of $19.95.

In 1810, the still-young United States of America continues
its westward expansion as a national economy begins to flourish.
But the country’s commerce is seriously disrupted in Kentucky,
at the juncture of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers, by daring
pirates who strike from nowhere and then disappear into the wilderness.
Captain John Norton, a young military officer working undercover,
mounts a secret campaign against the buckskinned brigands, who
are led by a mystery man known as Blacknose. Along the way Norton
receives aid from such legendary figures of early American history
as rugged pioneer Daniel Boone, future President Zachary Taylor,
prominent naturalist John J. Audubon, and Shawnee Indian chief Tecumseh.
Yet the clever Blacknose and his followers continue to evade their
 would-be captors.

The Wilderness Trail originally appeared in the February 1915
issue of Blue Book and was the first of more than 370 fictional
      works—novels, novelettes, and short stories—H. Bedford-Jones
wrote for that distinguished pulp magazine over a period of
33 years. It was also his first historical novel with an American
setting. Issued in hard covers many decades ago by the British
firm of Hurst & Blackett, The Wilderness Trail has never
been published in the United States as a book—until now.

      | The New Pulp Heroes - New pulp blog now online! Tom Johnson has started a
new Blog for authors who have created new pulp heroes.

This Site is for essays on The New Pulp
Heroes. It’s about time we catalog new characters appearing in books
and anthologies. Since Tom does not have time to read everything being published,
he is offering space for legitimate creators of new pulp characters to
send him their data, and he will post their essays. The only changes Tom
will make to essays will be editing and format. If you wish, include a
jpeg of a book cover or b&w illustration if you have permission from
the artist. By sending Tom your essays, you are giving me permission to
promote and showcase this data. Eventually, it would be nice to see all
the data published in book format. Essays should be up to 500 words, and
include information on MC and back up characters, creator, title of books,
and where the stories can be found.

Click here for the complete programming
  schedule.
 PulpFest Premiers

There are plenty of reasons why PulpFest
is called "Summer's Great Pulp Con." One is because it's the place where
publishers choose to roll out new titles.

This year will be a big one for premiers with Stark House Press offering
PAPERBACK CONFIDENTIAL and its 132 profiles of the men and women who wrote
the books that became the backbone of the pulp and paperback era; Meteor
House/FarmerCon will be offering a new and expanded edition of the Philip
José Farmer classic, DOC SAVAGE: HIS APOCALYPTIC LIFE as well as a
new Pat Wildman novella, THE SCARLET JAGUAR; Ed Hulse's Murania Press hopes
to have a new issue of BLOOD 'N' THUNDER at the con as well as THE BLOOD
'N' THUNDER GUIDE TO PULP FICTION, a follow-up to Ed's classic reference work
on the pulps; pulp scholar Will Murray will be offering his new history of
the Western pulps, WORDSLINGERS, while Laurie Powers will be offering a new
collection of her grandfather's pulp fiction, HIDDEN GHOSTS; and the list
goes on . . .
New Fictioneer . . . Van Allen Plexico
Due to a recent, unexpected cancellation by one of our previously announced
"New Fictioneers" readers, Van Allen Plexico has graciously consented to
fill that hole in our programming schedule.

Van is an award-winning author of ten novels and nearly two dozen short
stories and novellas, as well as five non-fiction books.
His works have included everything from Sherlock Holmes to space opera
to 1930s air ace combat to Marvel’s Avengers.
He is best known for his ongoing superhero pulp novel series, SENTINELS.

Van will be reading from a variety of his works on Friday, July 26th
at 2 PM in the Hyatt Regency's Fairfield Room.
 Tonik Auction Continues!

One of the many highlights of PulpFest is
its Saturday night auction. Organized by J. Barry Traylor and a gaggle
of enthusiastic volunteers,
the auction is always the final programming event of summer’s great
pulp con. This year's auction will begin at approximately 9:30 PM on July
27th.

Our 2012 auction included a large amount of material from collector
and scholar Al Tonik’s huge library of
hardcovers, paperbacks, pulps, dime novels, comic books, fanzines,
and reference books. More than $15,000 was bid for the Tonik lots.

Our 2013 auction will include 115 more lots made up of approximately
 250 books Al's collection.
You can look at a spreadsheet listing these lots by visiting our home
 page at www.pulpfest.com.

In addition to the Tonik material, PulpFest will be accepting about
100 lots from registered members of the convention.
All told, we'll have over 200 lots to sell on Saturday. So bring your
cash and get ready to bid, bid, bid!
 Hero Pulp Premiums and Promotions

How did pulp magazine publishers keep readers
coming back month after month? Of course the best way was to publish excellent
  stories.
Another method that publishers employed to lure dimes on a regular
basis from buyers with thin wallets was to create a club and offer premiums.

On Saturday, July 27th, at 9 PM, please join PulpFest website designer
Chris Kalb in the Fairfield Room located
on the second floor of the Hyatt Regency Columbus as he takes us back
to a time when a few cents not only bought a pulp magazine filled with
  thrills,
but also an Operator #5 ring, a G-8 Battle Aces Club pin, or a membership
       in the Green Lama Club.
Chris will be presenting Hero Pulp Premiums and Promotions, an event
that you cannot afford to miss.
Dr. Fu Manchu & the Yellow Peril

One hundred years ago, Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu made his American debut
    in COLLIER'S, a five-cent weekly.
In September of that year, McBride would release THE INSIDIOUS DR.
FU-MANCHU,the first of Rohmer's novels to feature his devil doctor.

Although Sax Rohmer did not create the "yellow peril" genre of pulp
fiction, his Fu Manchu stories would greatly influence the bloody pulps.
His work helped to influence writers as diverse as Carroll John Daly,
Walter B. Gibson, H. P. Lovecraft, and Robert E. Howard.

At 8 PM on Saturday, July 27th, PulpFest will salute the American centennial
of Dr. Fu Manchu with a panel exploring Sax Rohmer's character and his
influence on the pulp fiction of the early twentieth century.

 PulpFest would like
to remind everyone about our generous offers for members staying at the
Hyatt Regency Columbus in late July. The hotel itself will provide free wireless Internet service to all
guestrooms and complimentary parking at the Chestnut Street Garage,
located one block south of the hotel and connected via a covered skywalk.

And to reward loyal attendees for supporting the convention by staying
three nights at the host hotel, PulpFest is happy to offer a ten-dollar
rebate redeemable through our registration desk.

 Eighty years ago,
following the astounding success of The Shadow Magazine, the pulp industry
created a tremendous splash in publishing by releasing a wave of single-character
magazines. The Phantom Detective, Nick Carter, Doc Savage, The Lone Eagle, G-8
and His Battle Aces, The Spider, and Pete Rice Magazine all debuted in
1933, despite the economic hardships wrought by The Great Depression.

On Friday, July 26th at 8:30
PM in the Fairfield Room of the Hyatt Regency Columbus, Ed Hulse, editor
and publisher of Blood ‘n’ Thunder,
and a panel of pulp historians will take a look at Doc Savage and
 the Pulp Heroes of 1933.

To the young readers who devoured the pulp magazines and “delighted
in his four-color depictions of action and adventure,” the one and only
“King of the Pulps” was Walter M. Baumhofer.

At PulpFest 2013 on Friday, July 26th at 9:30 PM, pulp art historian
 David Saunders will present
a biographical profile of Walter Baumhofer’s life story as well as
 the artist’s fascinating family history.
He will exhibit never-before-seen visual documents from the personal
world of this pulp art master.
Walter was a close friend of the presenter’s father, Norman Saunders,
and as such David was personally acquainted with the artist for over
   thirty years.
Baumhofer was a sensationally colorful character and David Saunders
looks forward to sharingmany amusing anecdotes and incidents that will
help to promote a greater awareness of this legendary artist.

  Once again, PulpFest
is pleased to welcome FarmerCon VIII to the Hyatt Regency Columbus. The
fans of Philip José Farmer will be joining us for the third year
    straight.
As it has every year since 2011, FarmerCon
will provide some of PulpFest’s evening programming.
On Friday, July 26th, at 7:30 PM, our
FarmerCon friends turn their attention toward the Grand Master‘s work
  related
Doc Savage with a panel entitled "His
Apocalyptic Life, Escape from Loki, and The Mad Goblin."

 Panelists Christopher Paul Carey, Win
Scott Eckert, Rick Lai, and John Allen Small will join moderator Art
    Sippo
for a discussion of Philip José
Farmer’s contributions to the Doc Savage mythos.

  With only four weeks
remaining before the 2013 PulpFest begins, convention chairman Jack Cullers
reports that most available exhibit space has already been booked, and that dealers who’ve not yet
registered for the convention should reserve their tables immediately
lest they risk being shut out.

  When the powers
at Street & Smith saw what a gold mine they had in THE SHADOW MAGAZINE,
they began laying plans for a raft of companion titles, selecting as their themes four top pulp
 genres–adventure, detective, aviation and Western.

NICK CARTER and DOC SAVAGE MAGAZINE
were first to the stands, introduced early in 1933.
As soon as their circulation figures demonstrated
the new single-character titles to be winners,
Street & Smith launched its Western
hero pulp, PETE RICE MAGAZINE. Its first issue was dated November 1933.

Although the magazine had a short lifespan--it
folded in 1936 after just 32 issues--
Pete helped to pave the way for other
western characters such as Ranger Publications, The Masked Rider, introduced
in his own magazine during the spring of 1934,
and Jim Hatfield, the "Lone Wolf" hero
of Standard's TEXAS RANGERS, beginning in the fall of 1936.

"Pistol Pete" Rice was the last of the
pulp heroes of 1933—seven in all. From July 25th-28th, join PulpFest
in Columbus, Ohio as we celebrate these characters.

 Beginning at 10 PM
on Thursday, July 25th, PulpFest 2013 will present the fifteen-chapter Columbia
Pictures movie serial, THE SPIDER'S WEB. Released in 1938 and starring Warren Hull
as Richard Wentworth, the “Master of Men,” and Iris Meredith as his
beloved Nita Van Sloan,
THE SPIDER'S WEB is today considered to be one of the greatest chapter
      plays ever filmed.

Never commercially released in a home-video
format, PulpFest has obtained the best version currently in circulation
and will offer all 15 high-octane chapters to convention attendees
in five-episode increments spread out over three nights.

 BLOOD 'N' THUNDER
editor Ed Hulse explores the pulp-to-movie connection in his PulpFest presentation
"Hollywood and the Hero Pulps," one of several pre-convention programs
scheduled for Thursday, July 25th, at 9 PM.

Ed is the leading authority on pulp-related movies, having researched
and written about them for decades.
His PulpFest presentation will touch on many, but concentrate on those
     adapted from hero pulps,
with special emphasis on such serials as THE SPIDER'S WEB (1938),
THE SHADOW (1940), and THE SPIDER RETURNS (1941).
He’ll present little-known, behind-the-scenes info gleaned in part
from his own interviews with people who worked on these episodic epics.

 The Pulps After Fu Manchu
Maybe Kaiser Wilhelm did coin the term "yellow peril," but it was
Sax Rohmer who took it to the bank.
Little wonder that countless pulp writers, from Walter B. Gibson
and Norvell W. Page to Robert E. Howard and George Worts, turned
to Rohmer's Fu Manchu for inspiration for their lurid pulp tales.

To begin PulpFest‘s celebration of the 100th anniversary of Sax
Rohmer’s infamous creation,
Rick Lai looks at “The Pulp Descendents of Fu Manchu,” beginning at
8 PM on Thursday, July 25th in the Fairfield Room located on the
second floor of the Hyatt Regency Columbus.
Please visit www.pulpfest.com for additional information.
 Let the Voting Begin

The PulpFest Organizing Committee is pleased to announce that thirteen
individuals were nominated by their peers for the 2013 Munsey Award.

down to the eight individuals who received the most nominations.
This year, no one was nominated for the elite Rusty Hevelin Service
    Award.

The following nominees will be forwarded to a committee made up of
 all the living

 All PulpFest members
are invited to Room 150A-B at Ohio State University’s Thompson Library on
Thursday, July 25th at 5 PM where Ed Hulse, editor of BLOOD 'N' THUNDER, will deliver a lecture
entitled, "The Ancestors of Batman: Colorful Crime Fighters of Pulp
    Fiction."

Ed’s presentation ties in with PulpFest‘s 80th-anniversary celebration
of the 1933 hero-pulp explosion that gave us Doc Savage, The Spider,
     The Phantom Detective and others.
Directions to the library and additional information on the lecture
    are available at www.pulpfest.com.

 By 1933, Popular
Publications had become a successful pulp magazine publisher. During the spring and summer of that year, Henry Steeger, the firm's
young publisher, was planning additional releases for the pulp
market.

Inspired by the tremendous success of Street & Smith's THE SHADOW
MAGAZINE, Steeger dreamed up a Popular alternative.
He called it THE SPIDER and asked successful mystery writer
  R. T. M. Scott to introduce many of the trappings that would endear
the pulp’s characters to its readers.

With its third issue, THE SPIDER was turned over to Norvell W. Page,
the author who would go on to write over 3/4 of the pulp's 118-issue
     run.
THE SPIDER would go on to be one of the longest-lived of the hero
pulps, thanks largely to the white-hot prose of Norvell Page.

 1933 was not just
the year of the hero pulp. On March 2 of that same year, RKO Radio Pictures
premiered "the eighth wonder of the world," KING KONG, at New York's
Radio City Music Hall and the Roxy.
To celebrate the 80th anniversaries of "The
Man of Bronze" and KING KONG, Will Murray, author of "The Wild Adventures
of Doc Savage," paired the two characters in his novel, SKULL ISLAND.
On Saturday, July 27th, at 2 PM, PulpFest 2013 will host a special
"New Fictioneers" reading of Mr. Murray's bestselling novel by Radio
     Archives' reader Roger Price.

A longtime entertainer on television, radio
and the live stage, Mr. Price has appeared on a number of Radio Archives'
       pulp audiobooks.
He has also worked with a wide variety of clients as an announcer and
voice actor, specializing in character/cartoon voices and dialects.

at summer’s great pulp con. Since FarmerCon joined with PulpFest in 2011, Win has appeared
    on several panels, signed books,
and regaled audiences as part of the convention’s popular New
 Fictioneers presentations.
For his reading this year, Win has decided to share center
stage with his good friend and fellow Philip José Farmer
     devotee, John Allen Small.

The Pulp Heroes Take to the Air

        Americans in 1933 had “nothing
to fear, but fear itself,” and the pulp heroes introduced early
that year had been proving the country’s new president to be absolutely
correct. During that harrowing year, The Phantom Detective,
Nick Carter, and Doc Savage had met and defeated “The Emperor of
Death,” “Maniacs of Science,” “The Red Skull,” and other adversaries.
As the year wore on and The Great Depression savaged other genres, the
pulp heroes of 1933 surged forward, their magazines disappearing from
America’s newsstands. And the publishers noticed.

      | Radio Archives Jack Armstrong and the Secret of U-77 Audiobook
 by Jeff Deischer
 Read by Nick Santa Maria
 Now available!

 |
      | Created by Robert Hardy
Andrews, Jack Armstrong, the All-American Boy was one of the first and most
memorable of the adventure radio serials. Running from 1933 to 1951, it
featured the resourceful high school student on a dizzying collection of
adventures that spanned the globe. He often accompanied Colonel Jim Fairfield,
an aviation industrialist, and Fairfield's brave niece and nephew Betty and
Billy on their travels. Backing them up was two-fisted Vic Hardy, a brilliant
scientist and sleuth.
Now, for the first time, one of the Jack Armstrong serials has been
novelized and is now available from Radio Archives as a 12 hour audiobook.
Noted author Jeff Deischer adapts Jack Armstrong and the Secret of U-77
from the 1946 James Jewell production — a serial for which none of the original
recordings exist. Jeff is known for his strong narrative, which gives this
story an authentic flavor.

In the post-war world, danger is not always so easy to see. But Jack
Armstrong identifies it in the form of Dr. Romago, a unscrupulous scientist
who abandoned his native United States before the war. After being mysteriously
missing for several years, Romago has returned — and he is after the secret
 of U-77.

What is U-77, and why does Dr. Romago seek it? Jack can only guess.
But he does know that if Romago wants it, he can’t be permitted to have
it. Accompanied by his loyal friends, Uncle Jim, Betty and Billy Fairfield,
Jack and Vic Hardy head down to the Sea Islands off the Southern Atlantic
coast, where Romago has been driving away the local fishermen through his
underling, Pachino the Eel, a gangster who has crossed paths with scientist
 Vic Hardy before.

Aboard his schooner, The Gray Ghost, Romago squats, a fat spider pulling
on the strands of his web like the strings of a puppet, manipulating the
fishermen of Thunderbolt, Georgia, his own henchmen — and even Jack Armstrong!

Jack Armstrong and the Secret of U-77 takes Jack and his friends from
New York City to the coast of Georgia down to the bottom of the ocean in
this exciting 12 hour long saga.

Douglas Klauba has painted a gorgeous wraparound cover for this special
audiobook. Nick Santa Maria took a break from being the Spider to do the
voice acting for Jack Armstrong and the Secret of U-77. Get your copy today!

The Secret 6 #4: The Golden Alligator

was inspired by the Grand Guignol theater of Paris. This breed of pulp
story survived less than ten years, but in that time, they became infamous,
even to this day. This ebook contains a classic story from the pages of
Terror Tales magazine, reissued for today’s readers in electronic format.
$0.99.Rangeland Romances #19: "I'm Claiming
  That Guy" by Thelma Knoles
Entrancing Rubie tried all her lovable tricks to hold ranchman
Guy spellbound — but all she did was smother his ardor. She had her hombre
cut out of the herd — till Guy stampeded. One of the most popular settings
for romance stories was the old west, where men were men and women were
women. As many a swooning damsel could attest, "There's something about
a cowboy." The western romance became one of the most popular types of magazines
sold during the early and mid-twentieth century. $0.99.

Pulp To Publish Edgar Rice Burroughs' JUNGLE
  TALES OF TARZAN Graphic Novel

 Sequential Pulp Comics is proud
to announce a new graphic novel based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic
     novel, Jungle Tales of Tarzan.

The one hundred and forty four page graphic novel will
be authorized by ERB, Inc. through Sequential Pulp’s distribution arrangement
with Dark Horse Comics. The book will be designed as an anthology
collecting the twelve loosely connected short stories written by
Edgar Rice Burroughs chronicling the life of his most famous character,
Tarzan of the Apes. All the events of the original work take place
within chapter eleven of Tarzan of the Apes between Tarzan’s
avenging of his ape foster mother’s death and his becoming the
leader of his ape tribe. The original stories ran in Blue Book
magazine from September 1916 through August 1917 prior to the book’s
  publication in 1919.

Writer Martin Powell will helm the graphic novel. Powell
is well known for his work as the author of hundreds of science fiction,
mystery, and horror stories. He has worked in the comic book industry
since 1986, writing for Marvel, DC, Malibu, Caliber, Moonstone,
and Disney, among others, and has been nominated for the
coveted Eisner Award. He is also a respected and award winning
author of children’s books, and frequently contributes prose
for many short story anthologies. He resides in Saint Paul, MN.

Along with Powell, Sequential Pulp is bringing a veritable
who’s who of exciting illustration talent. With an amazing cover and
specialty art by Daren Bader to exciting story art by Pablo Marcos,
Terry Beatty, Will Meugniot, Nik Poliwko, Antonio Romero Olmedo,
Mark Wheatley, Diana Leto, Steven E. Gordon, Lowell Isaac, Tom
Floyd and Jamie Chase. Each story has been matched up with an
artist whose passion and love for Burroughs’ Tarzan and specifically
for the story selected will go a long way towards making this one
highly anticipated book in the Tarzan canon.

Each story will run twelve pages in length and the book
will be in full color. Sequential Pulp is planning a standard trade
paperback and a very limited signature deluxe signed edition.

      | THE SHADOW: MIDNIGHT IN MOSCOW
by Howard Chaykin - Coming soon!
Dynamite is proud to announce that legendary writer/artist Howard Chaykin
will write his first new tale of The Shadow in nearly thirty years.
The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow will take place three decades prior to the
events of his critically acclaimed Blood & Judgment series.  Chaykin
will reprise his creative role both as writer and artist for this new venture.

"I'm delighted and grateful to Dynamite for the opportunity to work
once again on so legendary a character as The Shadow," says Chaykin.
"My new miniseries, The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow, tells the secret story
behind the Shadow's disappearance in 1949."  While this new series
marks his return to Shadow storytelling, he hasn't strayed far from the
character in recent years, contributing gorgeous cover artwork for Dynamite's
 variety of Shadow series.

"The Shadow: Blood & Judgment is one of my favorite comic series
of all time," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.
"It absolutely blows my mind, still to this day.  I can't even begin
to express how much this means to me as the publisher of the series and
how much as a fan of Howard's series.  Howard Chaykin's return to the
character is going to be phenomenal.  And in a move that will certainly
keep his fans on their toes, he's setting Midnight in Moscow up not as a
direct sequel to his earlier work, but years and years beforehand, at an
exciting and critical moment in the Shadow's history.  I have such
tremendous respect for Howard as a storyteller, a true modern master of the
comic book medium."

Howard Chaykin is a modern legend in the comics industry, with an exceptionally
respected body of work spanning four decades.  He is perhaps best known
for American Flagg!, a series published by First Comics in 1982.  Chaykin
wrote and illustrated the first twelve issues exclusively, and was praised
by critics and readers alike.  In 1985, Chaykin wrote and drew The
Shadow for DC Comics, the acclaimed run that would later be collected by
Dynamite as The Shadow: Blood & Judgment.  He is the recipient
of Inkpot and Eisner Awards.  His extensive library of comics work
includes such titles as Star Wars, Black Kiss, American Century, Challengers
of the Unknown, Blackhawk, Hawkgirl, Blade, Punisher War Journal, and Satellite
Sam.   He was also executive script consultant for The Flash television
series on CBS, and later worked on action-adventure programs such as Viper,
Earth: Final Conflict, and Mutant X.

The Shadow began its existence in 1930 as a narrative voice on the
Street and Smith radio program Detective Story Hour.  The audience
thrilled to the serialized adventures of this mysterious figure, whose
mythos expanded to include Occidental mysticism, hypnotic powers over weak
criminal minds, and twin .45 caliber handguns.  With a keen intellect
and relentless drive, The Shadow hunted criminals without mercy in an era
when gumshoe detectives and bootlegging mobsters was a thrilling yet fearsome
reality.  The character's popularity has endured for over 80 years,
bolstered by appearances in radio serials, novels, comic books, films,
and more.  In recent years, Dynamite published a groundbreaking and
well-received Shadow series launched by comic writer Garth Ennis (Preacher),
with further tales crafted by Victor Gischler and Chris Roberson.
Lamont Cranston's grim alter-ego has also appeared in such related series
as The Shadow: Year One, Masks, and The Shadow / Green Hornet: Dark Nights.

      | The Shadow NowBy David Liss and Colton
Worley with covers by Tim Bradstreet

 New Shadow miniseries
starting in October!
Dynamite is proud to announce that beloved pulp-era crime-fighter
will appear for the first time in the modern age in the upcoming The
Shadow Now comic book series.  Mystery/thriller novelist David Liss,
whose previous comic book credentials include Black Panther and Mystery
Men from Marvel and Dynamite’s The Spider, will usher the classic character
into present day New York City with the assistance of talented artist and
painter Colton Worley.  The first chapter in this six-issue miniseries
is slated for release in October, featuring cover artwork by Tim Bradstreet
(Punisher) and interior artist Colton Worley.

In The Shadow Now, the greatest pulp hero of all returns to New York
City in modern times, having spent decades in the mystical East to rejuvenate
himself.  Lamont Cranston seeks to resume his old life, and his
heroic alter-ego is ready to stand once more as an enemy to evil.
But while he was gone, his foes have remained vigilant, and the most dangerous
man The Shadow has ever faced prepares to rise once more.

“The Shadow is, without doubt, one of the coolest pulp characters of
all time, so I was thrilled to get a chance to add something to the
legend,” says the critically acclaimed David Liss, whose first book,
A Conspiracy of Paper, won the coveted 2001 Edgar Award from the Mystery
Writers of America for Best First Novel.  “While we are working within
the long and storied tradition of Shadow adventures, I think we’re also
doing something original with this character, and that’s always a great
combination.   I was especially happy when I heard Colton would be
doing the art for this miniseries.      His art is stunning, and a perfect
fit for our neo-pulp tone.  This story is dark and moody, which I
think a Shadow story should be, but I think we’re also portraying a very
human and fallible version of the man behind the mask.  Fans who have
followed The Shadow in comics over the years are going to be very interested
to see how we run with what’s come before this.”

      | Taschen: TRUE CRIME DETECTIVE MAGAZINES - Trade paperback edition coming in August!
At the height of the Jazz Age, when Prohibition was turning
ordinary citizens into criminals and ordinary criminals into celebrities,
America’s true crime detective magazines were born. True Detective came
first in 1924, and by 1934, when the Great Depression had produced colorful
outlaws like Machine Gun Kelly, Bonnie and Clyde, Baby Face Nelson, and
John Dillinger, the magazines were so popular cops and robbers alike vied
to see themselves on the pages. Even FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover wrote regularly
for what came to be called the “Dickbooks,” referring to a popular slang
term for a detective.

As the decades rolled on, the magazines went through a curious
metamorphosis, however. When liquor was once more legal, the Depression
over and all the flashy criminals dead or imprisoned, the “detectives”
turned to sin to make sales. Sexy bad girls in tight sweaters, slit skirts,
and stiletto heels adorned every cover. Cover lines shouted “I Was a Girl
Burglar—For Kicks,” “Sex Habits of Women Killers,” “Bride of Sin!,” “She
Played Me for a Sucker,” and most succinctly, “Bad Woman.”

True Crime Detective Magazines follows the evolution and devolution
of this distinctly American genre from 1924 to 1969. Hundreds of covers
and interior images from dozens of magazine titles tell the story, not
just of the “detectives,” but also of America’s attitudes towards sex,
sin, crime and punishment over five decades. With texts by magazine collector
Eric Godtland, George Hagenaur and True Detective editor Marc Gerald, True
Crime Detective Magazines is an informative and entertaining look at one
of the strangest publishing niches of all time.

 Softcover, 9.1 x 10.6 in., 336 pages, $ 19.99

that is, in hopes of finding clues that will lead him to
the murderer stalking his palace. From the moment he arrives,
Carter finds himself embroiled in the conspiracies and intrigues
of the Martian north, where the only thing more bitter than
the cold is the politics. How many asses is our hero gonna have
to kick to get to the truth? A whole lot, trust us — this is Mars!
