After discussion with some frequent users of the indexes, I have decide to remove the distinction between artists and non-artists. While this probably made sense in the early science fiction magazine indexes for which the original software was developed, it has become less and less viable as the index has expanded to cover a much broader range of magazines and books and has led to some slightly strange distinctions between "similar" item types such as "pi" (pictorial) and "il" (illustration).
As a result the Artists Index has been removed and so has the Consolidated Names Index which is no longer needed as all contributors are now listed in the same index. The index that is now labelled the "by Name" index is effectively the index that used to be called the "Items by Author" index. Note that the bottom level of this index is somewhat different to the previous "by Name" index and now contains entries of the form:
where the hyperlink on the name links to the items published by that author and the (about), (books) & (chron.) links are as in previous versions of the index.
