Born in Washington D.C., educated at Howard and Harvard Universities; physician, specialist in tropical diseases, with practice in Liberia; public health advisor to the emperor of Ethiopia; director of the Harlem Health Center in New York City; medical director of Provident Hospital, Chicago; went to Liberia as a Major in the United States Medical Corps to command a station hospital there; after WWII he directed a United States Public Health Mission for malaria control and built and operated the first radio station in Liberia; died as the result of an automobile accident in Monrovia.
