[]Printers’ Pie (about)
One of the oddities of British periodicals is Printers’ Pie which was sometimes a Christmas annual, called either Winter’s Pie or Christmas Pie, sometimes appeared twice a year with the other volume called Summer Pie and briefly four times a year with a Spring Pie and Autumn Pie. Those with the seasonal titles were simply called that. Printers’ Pie did not appear in the title. So indexing them has an immediate problem.

[]Private Detective Stories: (about)
Private Detective Stories appeared in mid-1937, about three years after the first of the spicy magazine lines— Spicy Detective—and came from the same publisher—Trojan Publishing. The magazines were much the same— it has been said that “Private Detective Stories was Spicy Detective with less decorative covers and some, but not much, of the psychopathology left out”. It ran for 134 issues over a period of 13 years, in the latter months (from September 1949) adding two comic strips to the mix and dropping the word “Stories” from the title.
Details on retitled reprints supplied by Kenneth R. Johnson from articles published by Glenn Lord. In addition, Kelly Mordaunt identified many of the cover artists.

[]Private Eye (about)
Private Eye featured stories of hoodlums and small-time crooks, private investigators and the police, and some stories with surprise endings. Despite containing a good selection of contemporary crime-adventure and mystery stories by well-known authors, the magazine folded after only two issues, publishing material that was too little different from so many others.

[]Public Enemy: (about)
Public Enemy was Dell Publishing’s attempt to cash in on the G-Man boom of the mid-1930s and featured the adventures of Lynn Vickers, Agent G-77. However, it never really caught on and only ran for six issues under its initial title. In August 1936 the magazine was renamed to Federal Agent and gradually changed to a standard detective pulp, abandoning Lynn Vickers and his colleagues, but it only lasted for eight issues under this incarnation before folding in November 1937.
