Magazine Checklists

For a small number of magazines, the site contains a detailed checklist of all known issues, accompanied, where possible, by thumbnails of the covers of the associated issues (which, as always, may be "clicked" to display a larger cover image).

Note that some of these pages contain a large number (500 or so) of thumbnail images and will take some time to load if you are still using a dialup connection over a 56Kbs modem - you may also find that your browser "times out" before loading all the thumbnails and you will need to refresh the page several times to load them all. My apologies for the inconvenience but I think the pages look much nicer with as many covers as feasible on one page so that you can see the way the cover design changes over the years, and I am assuming that within ten years or so most of us will have migrated to broadband (or whatever succeeds it).

In some extreme cases (e.g. Argosy with over 2500 issues) I have split the checklists across multiple pages, but I have tried to avoid this. Note that these pages, like the rest of the site, are optimised for a display resolution of 1024x768 although they should display reasonably on lower resolutions.

Most of the magazines covered to date are grouped into sections corresponding to the putative series of fiction magazine indexes currently on progress:

  1. The Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Weird Fiction Magazine Index (published)
  2. The Crime, Mystery & Gangster Fiction Magazine Index (due in 2010)
  3. The Adventure, War, and Espionage Fiction Index (future)
  4. The Western and Frontier Fiction Index (future)
  5. The Sports Fiction Index (future)
  6. The Love and Romance Fiction Index (future)
There are also a number of "general fiction" magazines, many of which have indexed in specialist indexes of one kind or another. In addition checklists have been produced for a small number of Men's Magazines.

Lastly, there are a handful of thematic pages looking at magazines published by particular publishers:

Recent Additions

Although hopefully more will be added before long. I'm sure it goes without saying that I would be delighted to hear from anyone who can supply cover scans to fill in the (many) gaps or better images for some of the existing issues. Please also let know if you spot any mistakes - many of these scans are taken from eBay auctions and issue dating there is a very inexact science.
