    The English Illustrated Magazine—UK; Oct. 1883-Aug. 1913; Macmillan (1883-1893), William Ingram; monthly; standard format (in imitation of American magazines such as Harper’s and The Century), profusely illustrated with woodcuts; editors J. W. Comyns Carr, C. Kinloch Cooke, Clement Shorter, William Ingram (1893-1900); contained many articles on travel and topography, but also copious fiction; in some ways, this was the British periodical which pointed the way towards the later Strand Magazine; authors included Thomas Hardy, Henry James, Stanley J.
