Adam International Review

A magazine started in Hungary in the 1930s; the editor moved to England during the War. Title is an acronym for "art, drama, architecture, music" and is mostly non-fiction but usually runs a story or two each issue. Has special author issues, e.g. L.P. Hartley, Graham Greene. Circulation about 1,000.

Attempt to combine a science magazine with sf. Finances were never enough and the magazine always looked second-rate. Attracted good fiction writers including David Langford, Brian Stableford, Garry Kilworth, John Brunner, Paul Collins and even reprinted L. Ron Hubbard. Circulation peaked at 18,000.

Founded by John Middleton Murry (sf writer Richard Cowper's father) to promote his literary and aesthetic beliefs. Nearly always had one or two stories per issue. Authors include Katherine Mansfield, D.H. Lawrence, H.E. Bates, Malachi Whitaker, T.O. Beachcroft, Rhys Davies, Dylan Thomas.
