A halfway house between a magazine and paperback anthology series, this was a generic title for a series of single-author reprint collections which ran for a number of years; authors included John O'Hara, William Saroyan, Sinclair Lewis, Somerset Maugham, John Steinbeck, Louis Bromfield, Fannie Hurst.

A merger in magazine form of two previous digest-format primarily reprint anthology series, Avon Fantasy Reader (1947 - 1952) and Avon Science Fiction Reader (1951 - 1952, 3 issues) both edited by Donald A. Wollheim. This magazine ran new stories of good quality. Authors include Jack Vance, Arthur C. Clarke, John Christopher, Alfred Coppel, Theodore Cogswell.
