The Original Science Fiction Stories (fnz)

Total Issues: 3

After Science Fiction Stories folded James Taurasi bought the rights to the title and put out three issues as a fanzine. Taurasi's version of the magazine's title resulted from the common misreading of the previous publisher's placement of the advertising phrase "The Original."

It is known that Ray Palmer was the editor/publisher from the beginning. It is not certain if Robert N. Webster was a pseudonym or a real person acting as a "front" for Palmer. Webster continued to be listed on the masthead of a companion magazine, Fate, into the late 1950's. This title was discontinued in 1953 and replaced by Science Stories when Palmer changed distributors.

The second series was treated as a continuation of Universe SF, thereafter merged with Flying Saucers (non-fiction magazine).

Men's magazine which, in the 1970's at least, "publishes one fiction piece per month-sometimes, but rarely, two".

In June 1981 Playboy Enterprises sold the magazine to Laurant Publishing Ltd. in New York. The new president and chief operating officer was Irwin E. Billman, former executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Penthouse Group. Initially, Laurant Publishing Ltd. featured celebrity nudity, peaking in 1982 with pictorials of Linda Blair, Demi Moore and Pia Zadora. The magazine has since experienced a significant decline in circulation.

The magazine went hardcore, along with many of its competitors, in the early 2000s, featuring couples photosets with penetration.
