Published much of the internationally popular "Kailyard" school of Scottish regional fiction in the late 19th century (J.M. Barrie, S.R. Crockett, Ian Maclaren, etc). Still going in 1933 when its editor encouraged James Hilton to write his famous novella "Goodbye, Mr Chips."
