Founded as successor to the University Magazine, a forum of arts and letters begun in 1844. It publishes fiction, poetry, letters, essays, reviews, and interviews, as well as original artwork. Contributors include Conrad Aiken, Wendell Berry, Anthony Burgess, Raymond Carver, Don DeLillo, Annie Dillard, Louise Erdrich, Michael S. Harper, Archibald MacLeish, Joyce Carol Oates, Reynolds Price, and Thomas Wolfe. Recent issues include work by Clyde Edgerton, Eamon Grennan, R.S. Gwynn, Barry Hannah, William Harmon, Janet Holmes, Nanci Kincaid, Denise Levertov, David Mason, Ruth Moose, Robert Morgan, Marilyn Nelson, Vivian Shipley, R.T. Smith, Cathy Song, Gary Soto, Richard Wilbur, and Charles Wright. Circulation about 1,500.

A goth sub-culture magazine that was best known for having printed Jhonen Vasquez's Johnny the Homicidal Maniac comic in short strips from August 1995 to January 1997. It contained interviews with notable authors, artists and musicians as well as occasional fiction.

A biannual literary magazine dedicated to dark fiction. Our aim is to present previously unpublished writings in the spirit of such authors as Joyce Carol Oates, Ramsey Campbell, Shirley Jackson, Thomas Ligotti, Anne Sexton, Peter Straub, Flannery O'Connor, and Henry James.

Each issue contained a single Carter Brown novel.
