Ladies' Diary

A miscellany and almanac which also ran fiction including the first genuine magazine serial in Britain, "The Unfortunate Courtier". Continued after 1709 but reverted to an almanac and fiction was switched to Delights for the Ingenious. Apparently noted it had 4,000 readers.

Dean Howells, Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, Conan Doyle, Bret Harte, Mary E. Wilkins, Elizabeth Stuart Phelps, Sarah Orne Jewett, Sarah Orne Jewett, Anthony Hope, H.G. Wells, Booth Tarkington, Willa Cather; was the first high-class monthly to reach 1 million circulation in 1903; it topped 2.5 million in 1933 and 6 million in 1960.
