MacKill's Mystery Magazine was primarily a reprint magazine, and ran for 22 monthly issues from September 1952 to June 1954. Each issue featured a story in Roy Vickers' "Department of Dead Ends" series, as well as other classic reprints from authors like Agatha Christie and Ellery Queen.

The title was changed on the cover only to MacKill's for the last four issues.

Some, or all, of the issues were also distributed in the US, initially just with an overprinted price, but after April 1953 with specific US editions with the same volume/issue number but different cover dates.

Began as a mainly reprint publication, but soon featured new fiction by Canadian writers (e.g. Robert W. Service's "The Trail of '98" was serialized, 1911); authors included Gilbert Parker, Arthur Stringer, Alan Sullivan, Stephen Leacock, Thomas Head Raddall; it also became an important market for American fiction writers in the 1930s, 1940s and the early 1950s: US authors included Talbot Mundy, Stephen Vincent Benet, Ray Bradbury. By the late 1950s fiction was becoming rarer and the last fiction was published in 1960 or thereabouts.

The first of the literary shilling monthlies; though it never quite matched The Cornhill in the quality of its fiction it still published such memorable serials as "The Water-Babies" Kingsley (1862-3), "The Portrait of a Lady" James (1880-1), "The Woodlanders" Hardy (1886 - 1887).
