The New York Weekly

Initially most of the fiction was by Francis Smith. Soon established some key writers, especially Horatio Alger, Bertha M. Clay, May Agnes Fleming, Edward S. Ellis, Edward Judson and Prentiss Ingraham (both "Ned Buntline"), John Coryell. Published the first stories featuring Buffalo Bill (23-Dec-1869) and Nick Carter (18-Sep-1886).

Note: originally The Weekly Universe (1846 - 1854) published by Amos Williamson. Williamson retitled it The New York Weekly Dispatch in 1855 and sold it to his employees Messrs Street & Smith; succeeded by Smith's Magazine: overview in Dime Novel Round-Up #200 (May-1949).
