The Quiver

Country: UK
Total Issues: 1284

A religious-orientated magazine that concentrated on articles and fiction of a highly moral and improving nature, its full title saying "designed for the defence of Biblical truth and the advancement of religion." The religious stranglehold was relaxed after Cassell's death in 1865. Only writer of note in early years was Mrs Henry Wood; later it published such popular authors as Rider Haggard ("When the World Shook," 1918 - 1919).

In the 1920s and 1930s the magazine was almost all fiction. In August 1940 the magazine shrank to digest size and thereafter looked more like The Dalesman, but still ran 2 or 3 stories per issue. The final issue started a new serial which ran over into The Sunday Companion.
