A magazine for boys of 9-12 years of age. The high spot of the magazine was a reprint of "The Coral Island" by R.M. Ballantyne; the rest of the paper was a mixture of short articles, a second brief serial, a short story and competitions. The third issue announced that the following month they would begin reprinting "The Fifth Form at St. Dominic's" by Talbot Baines, but it was never to appear.

One of several gangster pulps published by Harold B. Hersey. However, by the time it was published, in 1931, public interest in gangsters was fading and it only lasted for 4 issues.

A literary and poetry zine which included contributions from Stanton Coblentz, e.e.cummings, August Derleth, David H. Keller, Lilith Lorraine, Clark Ashton Smith, and William Carlos Williams.

Launched by the then editor of Detective Fiction Weekly, Special Detective featured a blend of fiction (mainly by authors familiar from Detective Fiction Weekly) and factual articles. After the third issue the former were phased out and the magazine continued as a true crime magazine.

A short-lived product of Whittle Communication LP which flourished in the early '90s, as part of a set of SPECIAL REPORT magazines explicitly aimed at doctors' offices and similar sites.

A quarterly illustrated fiction and lifestyle magazine.

Mayo says: "On the whole the Spectator published less fiction than the Tatler, perhaps because it gave increased emphasis to literary criticism. Nevertheless The Spectator did make one new and significant addition to the repertory of 18thC magazine fiction: the oriental tale." Examples are "The Vision of Mirza", "The Letter from a Monkey", "The Story of Hilpa".
