The Argosy: Part 6 - Post 1979 and various related Issues

Later Revivals of the magazine

Argosy was briefly revived in 1990 when it ran for five issues in an increasingly irregular schedule, and an odd volume numbering whose origin remains unclear.

It was revived again in 2004 as an extremely "slick" magazine. It started as a bimonthly but only managed two issues on that schedule before going on hiatus for the remainder of 2004 before being relaunched as Argosy Quarterly in 2005, which only lasted for a single issue.

Specials and Spinoffs

Towards the end of its life in the 1970s, Argosy issued a number of specials under a variety of titles, only one of which (the Science Fiction one) is believed to have carried any fiction. I do not yet have a definitive list of all of these, but the ones I know of are:

In addition to the two UFO issues listed above, there was also a short-lived companion magazine called "Argosy UFO" which seems to have lasted for eight issues in 1976/1977 on an almost bi-monthly schedule:

1976
v1 #1
Jul

v1 #2

v1 #3
Nov
1977
v2 #1

v2 #2

v2 #3

Winter 1977/78

There also seems to have been another short-lived companion magazine called "Argosy Gun" but only a single issue has been located:

1978
Summer

The Best of Argosy Annual

There were also two issues in 1976 of a retrospective anthology in magazine format called The Best of Argosy Annual. Although this was issued to celebrate Argosy's one hundredth anniversary, approximately one third of the contents are SF or fantasy, most of which are reprinted from related magazines rather than from Argosy itself.
