His father (1840 - 1927) wrote novels as Frank Atkins, Frank Aubrey and Fenton Ash; and the two writers may have collaborated. “St. Mars” was a naturalist by inclination (if not training), and his stories of animals were very popular with the readers of Adventure. Although sickly (his letters make constant reference to his ill-health), he spent much time out-of-doors and even corresponded with Theodore Roosevelt. He was born in Bromley, Kent, England and lived in Southsea, Hants, England.
