The American Weekly

The American Weekly was published by the Hearst Corporation for inclusion as a supplement to their Sunday newspapers. Sort of the Parade Magazine of its day, it was also the precursor of the National Enquirer and could have given the Police Gazette a run for its money.

It was billed as having a circulation of over 50,000,000 readers and was filled with scantily clad showgirls and tales of murder and suspense including work by H. Bedford-Jones, Max Brand, James F. Dwyer, A. Merritt. It was large - about 21"x15" - and printed on fragile newsprint, so few copies have survived the ensuing decades.

Initially entitled The American Magazine; title changed to Pictorial Living in 1963 and folded in 1966.

America West Airlines Magazine

The magazine's centerpiece story might be a thoughtful news feature, an essay, a piece of fiction (short story or excerpt from a longer work) or a photo essay. Subjects that evoke a strong sense of place within the airline's route system are particularly welcome. The length ranges from 1,500 - 3,000 words; sidebars often are staff-generated.
