The SpartanTotal Issues: 3A magazine for boys of 9-12 years of age. The high spot of the magazine was a reprint of "The Coral Island" by R. M. Ballantyne; the rest of the paper was a mixture of short articles, a second brief serial, a short story and competitions. The third issue announced that the following month they would begin reprinting "The Fifth Form at St. Dominic's" by Talbot Baines, but it was never to appear.

Special DetectiveTotal Issues: 3Launched by the then editor of Detective Fiction Weekly, Special Detective featured a blend of fiction (mainly by authors familiar from Detective Fiction Weekly) and factual articles. After the third issue the former were phased out and the magazine continued as a true crime magazine.
