This Week

Country: US

In 1935, Joseph P. Knapp conceived of the idea of a Sunday magazine supplement syndicated to major newspapers across the USA, and transformed the existing New York Herald Tribune Magazine into This Week.

It grew from a circulation of 4 million in 1935 to nearly 12 million in 1957, far outstripping other fiction-carrying weeklies such as Collier's, Liberty and even The Saturday Evening Post (all of which eventually folded before This Week did). Authors of fiction included Max Brand, Lord Dunsany, George Harmon Coxe, John D. MacDonald and Sax Rohmer (some of the later "Fu Manchu" stories).
